New for 2015: Land Rover

By Jeff Youngs, March 19, 2015

2015 Land Rover Overview

For 2015, Land Rover is introducing a new model: the Land Rover Discovery Sport. This will be the replacement for the LR2, which will be discontinued after this model year. The entire Land Rover lineup underwent dramatic changes for the 2013 and 2014 model years, so most revisions for 2015 are modest. They include new option packages, and ultra-luxe features added to the Land Rover Range Rover and Range Rover Evoque via the Autobiography trim levels.

Land Rover SUVs are available in 5-seat and 7-seat configurations, with regular or long wheelbases. Base models come with a long list of luxury and high-tech features, with options and higher trim levels making Land Rover one of the industry's leaders in luxury and power.

2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport
An all-new model for 2015, the Land Rover Discovery Sport is a small SUV, a 5-seater that will replace the Land Rover LR2 as a stablemate of the Evoque. It's 10 in. longer than the Evoque, offers more interior space, and allows optional third-row seating that would bring its passenger capacity to seven. The Discovery Sport is powered by a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 240 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque. It's available in a base trim (SE), HSE, and HSE Lux.

What's New:
  • All-new model for 2015
  • 5- or 7-passenger seating

2015 Land Rover LR2
This is expected to be the last year of production for the Land Rover LR2, which has been rendered redundant by the Range Rover Evoque. It'll be replaced later this year by the Discovery Sport model. This 2015 version of the LR2 features only minor updates. Most prominent of these is the Black Pack and Silver Pack interior options. The former includes a gloss black "Land Rover" device on the hood; gloss black grille, surround, and side vents; rear LR2 badge; 19-in. alloy wheels with black finish; black lacquer interior touches; and premium navigation system. The latter includes a distinctive exterior design package; bright exhaust finishers; silver element interior trim; 19-in. split-spoke alloy wheels with sparkle finish; and the navigation system.

Buyers have a choice of base, HSE, and HSE Lux trim levels, all equipped with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. All-wheel-drive (AWD) capability is standard.

Side steps are included as standard equipment; new options include a wood/leather steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, and upgraded communications technology.

Available in base, HSE, and HSE Lux trim levels, the 2015 LR4 features a standard 4-wheel drive (4WD) system with single-speed transfer case, introduced last year. The optional heavy duty package includes a 2-speed transfer case with active-locking rear differential. Properly equipped, the 2015 LR4 can tow 7,716 lbs.

It works with a fuel-saving start/stop assist system. Changes for the 2015 model year include a new driver-assistance package with lane-departure warning and full-circle parking sensors. The Range Rover HSE now offers the option of a longer wheelbase.

The 2015 Range Rover is available with a supercharged V-8 engine in lieu of the base V-6; the Autobiography and Autobiography Black trim levels push the menu of luxury features to the max (massaging seats; power-folding rear tray tables with leather or wood surfaces; 29-speaker sound system; and much more), and offers various exterior options.
