New for 2015: Fiat

New for 2015: Fiat

By Jeff Youngs,

2015 Fiat Overview

Fiat is a brand synonymous with the small-car concept, as evidenced by its lineup of 500-Series models, including the 500 hatchback, 500c convertible, 500 and 500c Abarth, and the fully electric 500e. The one possible exception may be the 500L, though even that wagon will fit neatly into a parking spot marked "Compact," with room to spare.

Updates for the 2015 Fiat lineup are few and vary slightly by model. Highlights include an extra USB port, Bluetooth streaming audio, redesigned gauges and center console, new paint colors, and expanded availability of the company's 6-speed automatic transmission.

2015 Fiat 500/500c
Available in 2-door hatchback and convertible body styles, the 2015 Fiat 500 is a front-wheel-drive (FWD) car whose most direct competitor is the Mini Cooper. Updates for 2015 include a new 7-in. high-definition gauge cluster, redesigned center console, Bluetooth streaming audio in addition to hands-free calling, extra USB port, and new paint colors. Trim levels include Pop, Sport, and Turbo, which is now offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

What's New:
  • 7-in. high-definition gauge screen
  • Bluetooth streaming audio
  • Redesigned center console
  • Additional USB port
  • Giallo Moderna Perla, Laser Blu, and Billet Argento paint colors
  • Automatic transmission available for 500 Turbo

2015 Fiat 500 Abarth
Essentially the hot-rod version of the 500, the Fiat 500 Abarth benefits from a standard turbocharged engine and a sport-tuned chassis, as well as one of the more burbly exhaust notes you'll hear from a stock setup. New for 2015 is the availability of a 6-speed automatic transmission--re-engineered specifically for the Abarth--that contributes to output measuring 157 horsepower and 183 lb.-ft. of torque. Buyers who opt for a 5-speed manual gearbox will be working with 160 horsepower and 170 lb.-ft. of torque.

Like the 500, the 2015 500 Abarth can be ordered in hatchback or convertible configurations, and has been upgraded with a redesigned center console, new gauge cluster, Bluetooth streaming audio, and an additional USB port.

What's New:
  • Optional 6-speed automatic transmission
  • More engine power (when mated with the automatic transmission)
  • 7-in. high-definition gauge screen
  • Bluetooth streaming audio
  • Redesigned center console
  • Additional USB port

2015 Fiat 500e
Not wanting to miss out on the electric car market, Fiat developed the 500e, a regular 500 hatchback that's equipped with a 111-horsepower electric motor, single-speed transmission, and a 24-kWh Lithium-ion battery. According to the EPA, this little plug-in model can average the equivalent of 122 mpg in the city and offers a maximum electric-only range of 87 miles. For the first 3 years of ownership, buyers are provided 12 days of rental car coverage to help when their transportation needs extend beyond the 500e's range.

As is the case with the 500 and Abarth variants, the 2015 Fiat 500e features a revised center console and an extra USB port, not to mention a couple of new color choices.

What's New:
  • Redesigned center console
  • Additional USB port
  • Luce Blue and Celeste paint colors

2015 Fiat 500L
It's difficult to view the Fiat 500L as a large car, but relative to other 500s, this wagon might as well be a Chevy Suburban. It's 2 feet longer and 6 inches wider than the 500, and boasts 42% more interior space, according to Fiat. Available trim levels include the Pop, Easy, Lounge, and the rugged-looking--though still FWD--Trekking. Power comes from a standard 1.4-liter, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine mated with a 6-speed manual, 6-speed dual-clutch, or a new-for-2015 6-speed automatic transmission. Designers have also created a couple of new paint colors offered exclusively on the 500L Trekking version.

What's New:
  • Optional 6-speed automatic transmission
  • Blue Tornado and Rosso Perla paint colors (Trekking)
