Most Reliable 2013 SUVs and Crossovers

Most Reliable 2013 SUVs and Crossovers

By Christian Wardlaw, July 18, 2013
Each year, J.D. Power surveys thousands of vehicle owners to collect data related to vehicle quality, vehicle dependability, and what people like and don't like about their vehicles. The company compiles this information and, based on the data, predicts how reliable new cars are likely to be in the future. For 2013, the crossovers and SUVs listed below, in alphabetical order, are the top-rated, non-luxury models in terms of predicted reliability.

2013 Buick Encore
A compact crossover, the turbocharged 2013 Encore is an upscale and affordable alternative to mainstream models, offering luxury and technology at an appealing price.

2013 Chevrolet Tahoe
A full-size, 8-passenger SUV designed for towing and hauling lots of weight, the 2013 Tahoe is nearing the end of its current-generation production run (an all-new 2015 Tahoe will arrive at Chevy dealerships early next year year). Buyers can choose between LS, LT, LTZ, and Hybrid trim levels.

2013 Honda CR-V
Honda makes no changes to its popular 5-passenger compact crossover following a complete redesign for the 2012 model year. The CR-V is available in LX, EX and EX-L trim levels, the latter equipped with leather seats.

2013 Honda Crosstour
Based on the previous-generation Honda Accord, the 2013 Crosstour is a 5-door hatchback riding on a raised suspension. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional. All Crosstours have a 3.5-liter V-6 engine, and this model receives a substantial refresh for 2013.

2013 Nissan Murano
The biggest change for the 2013 Murano, a 5-passenger crossover SUV, is the availability of new blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and rear cross-path detection systems. New colors, wheel finishes, and equipment round out the changes.

2013 Toyota 4Runner
Designed for serious off-roading, the 2013 4Runner is a midsize SUV that carries up to 7 passengers. Rear-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive (4WD) variants are on sale, and for 2013, a switch replaces the base 4Runner SR5 4WD model's former transfer case lever.

2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Retro-themed and rugged, the 5-passenger FJ Cruiser is ready for off-roading right out of the box. Changes for 2013 include standard power side mirrors with illuminated markers and fresh paint color choices.

2013 Toyota RAV4
The popular RAV4 is redesigned for 2013. Retaining its compact crossover dimensions, the new RAV4 is offered in LE, XLE and Limited trim levels with front- or all-wheel drive. A 176-horsepower, 4-cylinder engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission is the only powertrain choice.

2013 Toyota Venza
A midsize, 5-passenger crossover SUV, the 2013 Venza is restyled and offered with greater levels of standard equipment than the 2012 model. Buyers choose between a 4-cylinder and a V-6 engine, front- and all-wheel drive, and LE, XLE, and Limited trim levels.
