Most Reliable 2013 Cars: Luxury Sedans

By Christian Wardlaw, July 17, 2013
Through annual surveys of thousands of vehicle owners, J.D. Power measures what has gone right and what has gone wrong with new and used cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans. This data is compiled and studied, and the research allows the company to predict how reliable new vehicles are likely to be in the future. Based on the latest information, J.D. Power predicts that the 2013 model-year luxury sedans listed below, in alphabetical order, are the most likely models to deliver dependability in the years to come.

2013 Acura TL
A midsize luxury sport sedan, the Acura TL is equipped with V-6 power and a choice between front-wheel drive and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD). A new Special Edition model debuts for 2013.

2013 Acura TSX
The Acura TSX is essentially the European-market Honda Accord equipped with an Acura grille. A 4-cylinder engine powers the front wheels, and the TSX is offered in sedan and station wagon body styles.

2013 Audi A6
A midsize luxury sport sedan, the Audi A6 is available with a turbocharged 4-cylinder or a supercharged V-6 engine. All-wheel drive is optional with the former and standard with the latter. A performance-tuned S6 model has a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine.

2013 Audi A8
Audi substantially updates its flagship sedan for 2013, adding turbo-diesel, supercharged V-6, and twin-turbocharged V-8 engines to the lineup, which expands with the arrival of the performance-tuned Audi S8.

2013 Cadillac CTS
Cadillac's midsize luxury sport sedan receives minor cosmetic changes this year, while the performance-tuned CTS-V gets improved brakes. The CTS Sedan is redesigned for 2014, but the CTS Sport Wagon and CTS-V models are scheduled to continue in current format.

2013 Hyundai Equus
The Equus is a full-size, rear-drive, V-8-powered luxury sedan designed to compete with cars such as the Lexus LS. For 2013, paint and interior color choices are revised ahead of a mid-life refresh planned for 2014.

2013 Infiniti G
Infiniti cancels the G25 Sedan for 2013, leaving the G37 as the only offering. This is the final year for this midsize, rear- or all-wheel-drive, luxury sport sedan. It is redesigned for 2014, and will be re-named as the Q50.

2013 Lexus ES
Lexus redesigns the popular ES for 2013, increasing interior space, offering new safety and infotainment technology, and adding a new gas-electric hybrid version. The ES now shares a platform with the Toyota Avalon rather than the Toyota Camry.

2013 Lexus GS
Whereas the Lexus ES is a front-wheel-drive luxury sedan, the Lexus GS is a rear-wheel- or all-wheel-drive luxury sport sedan. Redesigned for 2013, the GS is available with a V-6 or a gas-electric hybrid powertrain, and offers numerous new features and technologies.

2013 Lexus IS
New connectivity and entertainment features are added to this Lexus model's navigation system for 2013. A compact sport sedan, the Lexus IS is offered with a choice between two V-6 engines and with rear- or all-wheel drive. A performance-tuned IS F variant with a V-8 engine is also on sale.

2013 Lexus LS
A mid-life refresh--including styling, engineering, and feature content modifications--accompanies this Lexus flagship luxury sedan into the 2013 model year. Lexus also tries to inject some excitement into this stately sedan by offering a new F Sport package.

2013 Lincoln MKZ
The 2013 Lincoln MKZ is redesigned, and points the way to the future of Lincoln in the process. Buyers choose between a turbocharged 4-cylinder, a V-6, or a gas-electric hybrid powertrain, and can equip the MKZ with what is claimed to be the world's largest power-retractable glass roof.

2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
If nothing else, the Mercedes E-Class offers choice. Gas V-6, gas V-8, twin-turbocharged gas V-8, turbo-diesel, and hybrid powertrains are available, and buyers select between Luxury, Sport, and E63 AMG model series. A 7-passenger wagon variant is available, too, as well as an all-wheel-drive system.

2013 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Serving as the flagship Mercedes sedan, the S-Class enters its final year of production in advance of a complete redesign for 2014. New comfort, convenience, and safety features are standard, and the S-Class is offered with as diverse a powertrain lineup as the smaller E-Class model.

2013 Porsche Panamera
Technically, the Porsche Panamera is a 5-door hatchback, but no matter how it's classified, it is expected to be reliable. The 4-passenger luxury sports car is offered with a V-6, V-8, twin-turbocharged V-8, or a gas-electric hybrid powertrain. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional.

2013 Volvo S80
The Volvo S80 is a midsize luxury sedan available with an inline 6-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive or a turbocharged V-6 and all-wheel drive. For 2013, the S80 gains standard equipment and a new Tunnel Detection headlight system debuts.
