By Jeff Youngs, May 06, 2013
The popular Ford Fusion is redesigned for the 2013 model year, offered with a variety of engines, including a gas-electric hybrid powertrain and a plug-in version of the hybrid called the Fusion Energi. Equipment levels range from the basics to luxurious, and the 2013 Fusion is available with numerous infotainment and safety technologies. Here are 5 fast facts about the redesigned 2013 Ford Fusion.

1) Ford sells the 2013 Fusion in S, SE, and Titanium trim levels. There are few options for the Fusion S, while the Titanium is the luxury-themed version. Most people will choose the SE trim level, which offers a variety of options.

2) The Fusion S and SE are equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, 170-horsepower 4-cylinder engine, with a turbocharged, 179-horsepower, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder optional for the SE trim. Fusion Titanium has a 237-horsepower, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, and all-wheel drive is optional with this engine. Hybrid and Energi models pair a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a Lithium-ion battery pack, generating 188 horsepower in the Fusion Hybrid and 195 horsepower in the Fusion Energi. The Energi offers 21 miles of pure electric driving range before switching to gas-electric hybrid operation.

3) Depending on the model selected, the 2013 Fusion is rated to get between 22 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. The Fusion Hybrid gets 47 mpg across the board, according to the EPA, while the Fusion Energi is rated to get 100 MPGe in combined driving.

4) Every 2013 Ford Fusion is equipped with MyKey technology, which allows the owner to program specific safety features, and Sync with 911 Assist, which helps speed rescue following an air bag deployment. Depending on the model and trim, additional technologies include Active Park Assist, MyFord Touch, a Sony premium audio system with touch-sensitive control panel, blind-spot information system, lane-keeping assist system, rear cross-traffic alert system, and an adaptive cruise control system.

5) In crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2013 Fusion receives a 5-star (out of 5 stars) overall rating, the highest rating possible. The 2013 Ford Fusion also receives a "Top Safety Pick Plus" rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, but only for those vehicles built after early December 2012, when structural changes were implemented to improve occupant protection in small overlap frontal crashes. (Note: information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on or near the driver door.)
