5 Fast Facts: 2016 Toyota Yaris

Toyota updated its budget-friendly Yaris small car in 2015 with what it claims is European styling cues, better interior materials and a quieter cabin. For 2016, Toyota adds two new exterior color combinations: Barcelona Red or Crushed Ice with a Black Sand Pearl roof.

If you are interested in a 3- or 5-door small hatchback, here are 5 fast facts about the 2016 Toyota Yaris:

1) Yaris is powered by a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine that produces 106 horsepower and 103 lb.-ft. of torque, partnered with a 5-speed manual. A 4-speed automatic is optional. In combined city/highway driving, Yaris achieves an EPA-rated 33 mpg with manual, and 32 mpg with automatic.
2) Three trim levels include: L, LE and SE. Standard equipment for all includes: air conditioning, sport-tuned electric power steering, tilt steering wheel, power door locks, cargo area cover; power windows and body-colored folding mirrors. Yaris LE adds power mirrors, cruise, steering wheel audio controls and remote keyless entry.
3) Sporty cues inside the cabin include an instrument cluster with large speedometer; and LCD information display incorporating odometer, trip meter, and clock, outside temperature, fuel economy, and average speed functions. An acoustic glass windshield and extra sound insulation materials are added for a quieter ride.
4) Toyota’s Entune audio system is standard and includes a 6.1-in. touch screen; AM/FM CD player with MP3 playback capability, six speakers, HD radio; auxiliary jack, USB port; hands-free phone connectivity, voice recognition, and music streaming. Navigation is optional.
5) Safety is a focus with nine airbags and Toyota’s standard Star Safety System that includes stability and traction control. In safety tests, Yaris earns four of five stars overall from federal regulators and mixed ratings, including Good and Marginal scores from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS).
