5 Fast Facts: 2016 Mazda CX-9

The Mazda CX-9 midsize, 3-row crossover SUV promises a quieter, smoother ride for 2016, plus a quicker, more responsive powertrain and other improvements, according to Mazda. The CX-9 is available in four trim levels—Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, and Signature—in front-wheel (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), with a new turbocharged engine and LED headlights and taillights.

Here are some more facts about the 2016 Mazda CX-9:

1) Standard features on the CX-9 Sport include fabric seating surfaces, electronic parking brake, 18-in. wheels, reversing camera, trailer stability assist, Mazda Connect infotainment with Commander control, and a 7-in. color display. Optionally available is the Sport package, which adds a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and heated door mirrors.
2) The CX-9 Touring adds an auto-dimming rearview mirror, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, HomeLink garage door openers, black- or sand-colored leather seating surfaces, keyless entry, power liftgate, power front seats, and 8-in. touch-screen display. The optional Touring Premium package includes automatic on/off headlights, LED fog lights, navigation, premium 12-speaker Bose audio system, rain-sensing wipers, rear backup sensors, second-row retractable sunshades, SiriusXM satellite radio, automatic Smart City Brake Support, and a sunroof.
3) The Grand Touring version adds Mazda’s front-lighting system, 20-in. wheels, aluminum interior trim, Mazda’s first Active Driving Display (which projects instrument and navigation information onto the windshield), high-beam control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with Smart Brake Support, roof rails, and memory settings on the driver’s seat.
4) The CX-9 Signature adds Mazda’s predictive i-Activ AWD—a system that uses 27 sensors, measuring conditions more than 200 times per second to determine how to allocate power to each wheel as to minimize ever feeling the wheels slip. The CX-9 Signature’s interior features auburn-colored Nappa leather, and rosewood supplied by Japanese guitar-maker Fujigen.
5) All trim levels of the 2016 CX-9 feature Mazda’s new turbocharged SkyActiv-G 2.5T engine, which generates 250 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque, matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
