Highlights From the 2014 New York Auto Show

By Jeff Youngs, April 22, 2014

Bigger and better than ever, the 2014 New York International Auto Show served as the launching pad for a long list of new, significantly changed, and slightly updated new car, truck, and SUV models. In the gallery that follows, listed in alphabetical order, are 20 of the most significant models to debut at this year's show.

2015 Acura TLX
Replacing the TSX and TL in Acura's lineup, the 2015 TLX sedan is offered with a 4-cylinder or V-6 engine, the latter available with all-wheel drive. New transmissions, driving dynamics systems, and safety technologies inspire Acura to call the 2015 TLX the most dynamically advanced car it has ever produced.

2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Launch Edition
Marking the official return of Alfa Romeo to the U.S. car market, the 4C Launch Edition is a limited-production version of the new lightweight, mid-engine sports car that presages a new lineup of U.S.-bound Alfas.

2016 Audi A3 Sportback
Audi says the A3 faithful are responsible for the return of a 5-door hatchback to the company's A3 lineup in the United States. Shown in New York in TDI Clean Diesel form, a plug-in hybrid version is also heading to the States.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible
Stuffed full of supercharged V-8, the new 625-horsepower Corvette Z06 Convertible is made possible by the sports car's stiff aluminum structure. The car in New York was the second one produced by Chevrolet. The first? That was in 1963, when one of 199 Corvettes produced with a Z06 option package was a convertible.

2015 Chevrolet Trax
Entering the compact crossover fray, the new Chevy Trax is a Buick Encore without all the fancy fixin's. A turbocharged, 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine powers the front wheels, and all-wheel drive is optional. It faces competition from the new Honda HR-V when it hits showrooms in early 2015.

2015 Dodge Challenger
It might look the same on the outside, but the new Dodge Challenger benefits from a long list of mechanical and technological upgrades, coupled with a new interior that Dodge says is reminiscent of the 1971 Challenger.

2015 Hyundai Sonata
Redesigned for 2015, and equipped with a new interior, the Hyundai Sonata goes aerodynamic to increase fuel economy from its two engines, which are less powerful but said to offer more useful performance than before. Officially, the Sonata is considered to be a full-size sedan by the government, but competes against midsize models.

2015 Toyota Camry
Toyota, apparently disinterested in relinquishing its "best-selling car in America" title anytime soon, has restyled the Camry for 2015 while at the same time upgrading the interior and offering new infotainment and safety features. The 4-cylinder, V-6, and hybrid powertrains, however, are the same as those in today's Camry.

2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI SportWagen Concept
Aside from the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system that's paired with Volkswagen's TDI Clean Diesel engine in this "concept car," what you see here is essentially the replacement for the Jetta SportWagen. Bigger inside, and offered with more modern equipment, the new 2015 Golf SportWagen features a choice between a turbocharged, 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine or the latest Clean Diesel power plant from VW.
