The brand was launched in 2002 as the automaker made changes to its product lineup in order to capture a larger share of younger buyers. Unlike the automaker's Toyota or Lexus brands, both marketed and sold through traditional methods, Scion took a different approach. Consumers were targeted through non-traditional marketing. In addition, each automotive model would have just one standard trim level (but there would be a long list of available accessories for customers to personalize their vehicles). Lastly, Scion models would be sold with a fixed price.
