  • Power sunroof added to SE Appearance package

The 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan is a compact crossover SUV with seating for 5 people. Competitors in a crowded segment include the Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Cherokee, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester, and Toyota RAV4.

Models and Features
Volkswagen sells the 2015 Tiguan in S, SE, SEL, and R-Line trim levels.

To equip the Tiguan with dark-tinted privacy glass, manual front-seat height adjusters, a power driver's seat reclining function, leatherette upholstery, and larger 17-in. aluminum wheels, choose the Tiguan SE. An Appearance package is available for this trim level and includes 18-in. wheels, front fog lights and cornering lights, chrome exterior trim, power reclining for the front passenger's seat, keyless access with push-button engine starting, and a panoramic sunroof.

The Tiguan SEL upgrades this crossover with a premium audio system, navigation system, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Select the Tiguan R-Line for a sport-tuned suspension, big 19-in. aluminum wheels, bi-xenon headlights with LED running lights, and adaptive headlights that swivel to help illuminate around dark corners at night. Genuine leather is wrapped around the R-Line's seats, and Volkswagen dresses the cabin with extra chrome trim and a unique steering wheel design. Sporty exterior styling modifications, rain-sensing windshield wipers, folding heated side mirrors, power-adjustable front seats with memory for the driver's settings, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror are also included for the R-Line.

Under the Hood
A turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard in every 2015 Tiguan, generating 200 horsepower and 207 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard, delivering power to the SUV's front wheels. A 4Motion all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is optional.

Fuel Economy
Choose the standard Tiguan and buyers can expect to get 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. Opt for the 4Motion AWD system and the ratings are 20 mpg city/26 mpg highway.

Safety and Technology
For 2015, Volkswagen adds a reversing camera and Car-Net services as standard equipment for the least-expensive version of the Tiguan. Car-Net is free at first, but then requires the SUV's owner to pay a subscription to service.

Car-Net provides quick access to emergency calling, and will automatically dial rescuers in the event that the Tiguan is involved in an accident. Family Guardian service allows the SUV's owner to set specific speed and boundary limits. When they're exceeded, a text message is sent to the owner, a feature especially useful when there are teen drivers in the house.

Additionally, Car-Net provides speedy access to roadside assistance, allows owners to download a destination to the vehicle's navigation system, and can even help locate the Tiguan in a crowded parking lot.
