Changes on the exterior include moving the Aura name and powertrain badging from the car's decklid bright bar to the painted surface, and removal of chrome body moldings for a more streamlined look. Four new exterior colors are also added: Quicksilver, Polar White, Urban Moss and Gold Mist Metallic.

Model Lineup
Four models now comprise the Saturn Aura lineup, with the addition of the new, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder Aura XR for 2009. The other models include the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder XE, 3.6-liter V-6 XR, and the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder Aura Hybrid with GM's hybrid system. Standard on Aura XE models are power windows/door locks; power steering; cruise control; keyless entry; steering-wheel-mounted audio controls; manual air conditioning; cloth seating; front bucket seats; 60/40 rear split-folding bench; and 17-inch steel wheels and tires. The new 4-cylinder Aura XR has alloy wheels, while V-6 XR models are equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels and performance tires. Aura XR models have standard leather-appointed heated seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel; 8-way power driver's seat; automatic climate control; power-adjustable and heated rearview mirrors with driver's-side electrochromic adjustment; auto-dimming interior rearview mirror; and dual chrome exhaust pipes. The 2009 Saturn Aura Hybrid gets larger 17-inch alloy wheels and low-rolling-resistance tires, as well as \"Hybrid\" decals on the windshield and back glass.

Option packages for the 2009 Saturn Aura include Preferred (leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and carpeted front/rear floor mats); Premium Trim (with heated leather seats and woodgrain trim); Convenience (heated front seats and exterior mirrors, remote starter, auto-dimming rearview and outside mirrors, and universal garage door opener); and All-Season (with rubber floor mats and molded splash guards). Stand-alone options include: power sunroof; woodgrain trim; Ebony/Morocco Brown interior leather (available on 4-cylinder and V-6 Aura XR); engine block heater; and 17-inch chrome alloy wheels. Aura Hybrid options include steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, Premium Trim package with leather, and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity with the Preferred package.

The standard powerplant on Aura XE and XR 4-cylinder models is the 2.4-liter, dual-overhead cam (DOHC) Ecotec engine that Saturn says is one of the most powerful and efficient 4-cylinder engines in its class. State-of-the-art design features of the engine include lost-foam casting of the aluminum cylinder head and engine block, roller finger follower rocker arms, chain-driven camshafts, twin balance shafts and a very rigid structure. The engine is rated at 169 hp at 6400 rpm and 160 lb.-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm. All 4-cylinder Aura engines (except for the Aura Hybrid) are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. New for 2009, the 6-speed automatic transmissions include TAPShift, enabling the driver to manually shift gears via steering-wheel-mounted \"paddles.\" EPA fuel economy for the 4-cylinder engine is estimated at 22 mpg city/33 mpg highway. On the Aura XR V-6 model, the engine is a 3.6-liter DOHC V-6 with variable valve timing (VVT), delivering 252 hp at 6300 rpm and 251 lb.-ft. of torque at 3200 rpm. The V-6 engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel economy for the V-6 engine is 17 mpg city/26 mpg highway. The previously optional 3.5-liter V-6 engine on the Aura XE has been discontinued.

The 2009 Saturn Aura Hybrid is equipped with GM's hybrid system, including a unique electric motor/generator that's mated to the 2.4-liter Ecotec VVT 4-cylinder engine and Hydra-Matic 4T45 4-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid powertrain generates 164 hp at 6400 rpm and 159 lb.-ft. of torque at 5000 rpm. The GM hybrid system helps reduce fuel consumption by converting vehicle kinetic energy to electrical energy through regenerative braking (charging the advanced nickel metal hydride battery), enabling early fuel shut-off during deceleration, shutting off the engine when the car is stopped (minimizing idling), and performing intelligent battery charging when it is most efficient, Saturn says. EPA fuel-economy estimates for the Aura Hybrid are 26 mpg city/34 mpg highway.

The 2009 Saturn Aura offers numerous standard safety features, including dual-stage frontal air bags with the GM passenger-sensing system; head curtain side-impact air bags for all outboard front and rear passengers; front-seat-mounted thorax protection air bags for the driver and front-seat passenger; front safety belt pre-tensioners; LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) child safety seat anchors; 4-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS); electronic stability control; and traction control. In addition, all 2009 Saturn Aura models have the OnStar safety and security system that includes optional enhanced Turn-by-Turn Navigation.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2009 Saturn Aura and Aura Hybrid receive a perfect 5-star rating in frontal and side-impact crash tests. In the agency's rollover testing, the Aura receives a 4-star rating.

New for 2009, Bluetooth wireless connectivity for hands-free calling is standard on the Aura XR and available on Aura XE and Hybrid with the optional Preferred package. The standard audio system on the Aura is a 6-speaker, AM/FM/CD stereo with auxiliary input jack for portable devices. Also new for 2009, standard XM satellite radio includes a revised display that features the artist/song title displayed simultaneously, and all Aura models have roof-mounted and rear-glass-mounted antennas. Optional on the Aura XR is the AM/FM/CD/MP3 radio with 8-speaker sound, 240-watt amplifier, rear-seat audio controls, and two wireless headphones.

Saturn added a Green Line hybrid for the 2007 model year. That model used an electric motor/generator coupled with GM's Ecotec 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine for a total output of 170 hp and 162 lb.-ft. of torque. The result was a 20-percent increase in fuel economy versus the 2.4-liter engine without the hybrid system. The Vue was redesigned for the 2008 model year, losing the traditional Saturn plastic body panels in the process. A Saturn Vue Green Line returned to the lineup with the same 2.4-liter engine and motor/generator. For 2009, Saturn will add a second hybrid to the Vue lineup, the Vue Green Line 2 Mode.
