Exterior Features
The 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a shorter and completely different model than the flagship Range Rover. While both the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are built for off-roading, the Sport is designed for improved on-road performance, according to Land Rover. The base trim, HSE, features 19-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and ignition, and bi-Xenon headlights. A new twin-strip mesh front grille characterizes the new look, with LED taillights, turn signals, and brake lights. The HSE Lux trim adds 20-inch 15-spoke alloy wheels and higher-performance brakes, while the Supercharged trim features 20-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels.

Interior Features
The interior of the Range Rover Sport HSE features leather upholstery, air conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate control, full power accessories, navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity, 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and adjustable air suspension with adaptive damping. The HSE Lux trim features premium leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, heated windshield, more adjustable front seats, steering-wheel-mounted transmission controls, upgraded Brembo brakes, dynamic response suspension system, and special cosmetic touches. The Supercharged trim adds contrast stitching.

Optional Features
Available options for the Range Rover Sport include adaptive cruise control, Vision Assist package, and entertainment system upgrades.

Under the Hood
The 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is offered with a choice of two engines. The standard engine is a 5.0-liter V-8 rated at 375 horsepower and mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Supercharged trim is fitted with the same V-8 gasoline engine, but has been fitted with a supercharger to boost output to 510 horsepower, which works with a 6-speed automatic transmission. All trims of the Range Rover Sport feature full-time 4-wheel drive and a 2-speed transfer case to optimize gearing in off-road situations.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Sport are:
- Range Rover Sport HSE and HSE Lux: 13/15/18 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Range Rover Sport Supercharged: 12/17/14 mpg

Standard safety features on the Range Rover Sport include anti-lock brakes and a full complement of air bags.

To date, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has tested the 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Sport.
