What's New for 2015:
  • Re:Flex Edition trim level with upscale Ice Pearl exterior and red or black seats
  • Optional Style package now includes 18-in. alloy wheels
  • Automatic climate control is new to the Technology package

The 3-door 2015 Hyundai Veloster combines sports car and hatchback characteristics. Launched in 2011 to fill the slot of the discontinued Tiburon in Hyundai's lineup, the Veloster competes with compact sporty car models such as the Mini Cooper and Mazda MX-5 Miata, but also can be compared with the Ford Fiesta ST, Honda Civic, Chevrolet Sonic, or VW Golf.

Models and Features
The only new car model on the market with 3 doors (one door on the driver side and two on the passenger side) comes in four trim levels featuring standard and turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and transmission combinations. The standard front-wheel-drive (FWD) Veloster and all-new Veloster Re:Flex Edition are powered by a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine teamed with a 6-speed manual transmission. A 6-speed dual-clutch automatic is optional.

Standard on all 2015 Veloster trim levels are a tilt steering wheel, front LED headlight accents, dual power body-color side mirrors, rear wiper, power windows and door locks, and remote keyless entry. When the standard 60/40 split rear seat is folded down cargo capacity increases to 34.7 cu. ft. from 15.5 cu. ft.

The new Ice Pearl Veloster Re:Flex Edition is equipped with a standard 132-horsepower engine and 6-speed dual-clutch automatic, and features upscale red or black leather seats, 18-in. alloy wheels with chrome finish, chrome hood accents and door handles, LED light details, and Re:Flex Edition badging and floor mats. An LG Dimension premium 8-speaker audio system is included.

The sporty Veloster Turbo is powered by a 1.6-liter engine fitted with twin-scroll turbochargers to produce 201 horsepower when mated with a 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic. Special features on the Turbo Edition include 18-in. wheels with chrome, sport-tuned steering and sound effects, LED headlight accents, unique front grille and body fascia, push-button start, and a premium audio system.

The Turbo R-Spec version of the 2015 Veloster is powered by the same turbocharged powertrain, but is equipped with 17-in. alloy wheels, body-color front grille and black intake grille, chrome-tipped exhausts, a 6-speaker audio system, premium cloth seats with adjustable driver's seat, and metallic interior accents. It also gets the optional Technology package. R-Spec exterior badging and front splitter, plus exterior accents in red add a special touch to the Veloster's exterior design.

An optional Style package features 18-in. wheels, panoramic sunroof, exterior and interior upgrades, fog lights, leatherette seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the premium LG Dimension 8-speaker sound system.

Seven exterior paint colors can be selected for all Veloster trim levels except for the Re:Flex Edition. Color choices include Vitamin C (orange) and Matte Gray.

Under the Hood
The basic Veloster is powered by a 132-horsepower, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that is mated with a 6-speed manual or optional dual-clutch automatic transmission. If the peppier Veloster Turbo is chosen, twin turbos generate 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. The Turbo, which can be mated with 6-speed manual or automatic transmission with paddle shifters, can achieve 0-60 mph in 7 seconds, according to Hyundai.

Fuel Economy
The basic Veloster averages 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. The more energetic Veloster Turbo with automatic transmission is expected to average 24 mpg in city driving and 31 mpg on the highway.

Safety Ratings and Technology
Six air bags, including an overhead air bag, protect driver and passenger in the 2015 Veloster. In addition, Hyundai's sporty hatchback features 4-wheel disc brakes and ABS, as well as vehicle stability and traction control. Also standard on the 2015 Veloster is a tire-pressure monitoring system and 7-in. LCD touch screen with rearview camera.

Hyundai's BlueLink telematics system with automatic crash notification and vehicle diagnostics is standard, as is a Bluetooth hands-free phone system, and USB and MP3 output auxiliary jacks.

The Technology package adds rear park-asist sensors, automatic headlights, keyless entry and ignition, automatic climate control, power outlet, and a navigation system.

In crash tests, the 2015 Hyundai Veloster received 5 (out of 5) stars overall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Veloster earned \"Good\" and \"Acceptable\" ratings in crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
