The 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid is a midsize sedan equipped with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain. The 2015 Ford Fusion Energi is based on the Fusion Hybrid, adding a larger and more powerful battery that provides pure electric vehicle operation for short distances and can be plugged in and recharged.

Models and Features
Ford offers the Fusion Hybrid in S, SE, and Titanium trim levels. The Fusion Energi is available only in SE and Titanium trim.

Upgrading to the Hybrid SE adds heated side mirrors with approach lights and integrated turn signal indicators, a SecuriCode keypad entry system, 10-way power driver's seat, 6-way power front passenger's seat, and satellite radio. Additional features for the SE include rear floor mats, rear-seat center armrest, rear air conditioning vents, compass, and an outside temperature display.

Choose the Hybrid Titanium for leather sport seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated front seats, memory for the driver's settings, aluminum pedals and scuff plate trim, and ambient cabin lighting. The Titanium version of the Fusion Hybrid also includes a MyFord Touch infotainment system, premium audio system with 12 speakers and HD Radio, an Intelligent Access keyless entry system with push-button engine starting, remote engine-starting system, and rear park-assist sensors.

Additional upgrades include an auto-dimming rearview mirror, 110-volt interior power point, fog lights, rear deck spoiler, and a 10-spoke aluminum wheel design.

In addition to Hybrid SE equipment the Energi SE features leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated front seats, memory for the driver's settings, MyFord Touch infotainment system, 110-volt power outlet, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and fog lights. Features unique to the Energi model include a 120-volt charging cord, charging port with LED illumination, LED taillights, SmartGauge with EcoGuide technology, and a MyFord Mobile app that allows the owner to schedule and monitor battery charging, check available range, find nearby charging stations, and more.

The Fusion Energi Titanium adds sport seats, a 10-way power front passenger's seat, ambient cabin lighting, Intelligent Access, remote engine starting, 12-speaker premium audio system, rear park-assist sensors, aluminum pedals, aluminum scuff plate trim, rear decklid spoiler, and 10-spoke aluminum wheels.

Under the Hood
Fusion Hybrids are equipped with a 2.0-liter, Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder gasoline engine, 88-kW electric motor, 1.4-kWh Lithium-ion battery, and an electronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). Regenerative brakes continually recharge the Fusion Hybrid's battery. This setup allows the Fusion Hybrid to travel at speeds up to 85 mph and for very short distances on battery power alone, according to Ford.

The Fusion Energi is a plug-in hybrid vehicle. It uses the same powertrain but swaps in a much larger and more powerful 7.6-kWh Lithium-ion battery, giving the car a projected electric vehicle range of 19 miles. When the battery reaches a minimum state of charge, the gasoline engine turns on and the Fusion Energi operates like the Fusion Hybrid until the owner can plug the car in to fully recharge the battery. Recharging takes an estimated 7 hours using a standard household outlet, or 2.5 hours using a 240-volt outlet.

Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, the Fusion Hybrid should return 44 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway, for a combined rating of 42 mpg. A fully charged Fusion Energi is rated at 88 MPGe. When driven solely using the gasoline engine, the Energi's rating is 38 mpg.

Safety and Technology
In addition to its powertrain technologies and standard equipment lists, the Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi are offered with a Driver Assist package that adds a blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert technology, lane-departure warning system with lane-keeping assist and driver-monitoring technologies, automatic high-beam headlights, and rain-sensing wipers.

These models are also available with an adaptive cruise control system, forward-collision warning system with automatic braking, and an active park-assist system that can autonomously steer the car into a parallel parking space while the driver operates the transmission and pedals. A heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, rear inflatable seat belts, and a navigation system are also available.
