What's New for 2015:
  • SE Chrome Appearance package, added halfway through 2014, continues
  • Magnetic Metallic paint color debuts

The 2015 Ford Escape is a compact, 5-passenger crossover SUV. Primary competitors in a heavily contested segment include the Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, Kia Sportage, Nissan Rogue, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Subaru Forester, Subaru XV Crosstrek, Toyota RAV4, and Volkswagen Tiguan.

Models and Features
The 2015 Escape is offered in S, SE, and Titanium trim levels. Choosing the Escape SE adds a standard turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, upgraded exterior trim, SecuriCode keyless touchpad entry system, dark-tinted rear privacy glass, automatic headlights, fog lights, and aluminum wheels. Inside, the Escape SE features a 10-way power driver's seat, extra cupholders, floor mats, compass, outside-temperature display, and satellite radio with a free 6-month subscription to service.

The Escape Titanium includes a more upscale exterior appearance including heated side mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators and puddle lighting, rear park-assist sensors, hands-free power liftgate with foot-activation, and 18-in. aluminum wheels.

The Escape Titanium also includes leather seats, heated front seats, memory for the driver's settings, dual-zone automatic climate control, and keyless passive entry with push-button start and remote engine starting. MyFord Touch infotainment technology is also standard for the Titanium, along with a premium audio system with HD Radio, and a 110-volt power outlet. Additional upgrades include a universal garage door opener, auto-dimming rearview mirror, illuminated visor vanity mirrors, one-touch operation for all four windows, and ambient cabin lighting.

Under the Hood
A 168-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard for the Escape S, which is available only with front-wheel drive (FWD). For all-wheel drive (AWD), it is necessary to choose the Escape SE or Titanium.

With the Escape SE and Titanium, buyers select either a turbocharged, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine making 178 horsepower or a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine generating 240 horsepower. Each engine is available with FWD or optional AWD.

All 2015 Ford Escapes come standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel Economy
According to EPA estimates, the Escape S gets 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway from its 2.5-liter engine. Choose the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine in the Escape SE or Titanium and ratings improve to 23 mpg city/32 mpg highway. The more powerful 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine is rated to return 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway.

Add AWD to an Escape and the smaller EcoBoost engine gets 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway while the larger EcoBoost engine is expected to deliver 21 mpg city/28 mpg highway.

Safety and Technology
Every 2015 Ford Escape is equipped with Curve Control and torque-vectoring control, features designed to make the Escape better and safer to drive. Using the standard MyKey system, parents of young drivers can calibrate several of the Escape's capabilities associated with vehicle speed, stereo volume, seat belt usage, and other systems in order to improve safety for their children.

Additionally, Ford includes its Sync Bluetooth connection technology as standard equipment, featuring a free 911 Assist service. As long as a paired smartphone is aboard the Escape when a collision occurs, the system automatically dials emergency operators in order to speed rescue personnel to the scene of the accident. An SOS Post Crash Alert System is also standard.

As upgrades, Ford offers rain-sensing wipers, blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert, and a MyFord Touch infotainment system with a touch-screen display and an available navigation system.

Class-exclusive options include a power rear liftgate that can be opened by placing your foot under the bumper, useful when approaching the SUV with your hands full. An Active Park Assist system is also available for the Escape, autonomously steering into a parallel parking space while the driver operates the transmission and the pedals.
