Exterior Features
The Dodge Durango is a midsize crossover SUV that shares a platform with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It has a wagon-like profile and is available in four trim levels, with 18-inch or 20-inch wheels and a V-6 or V-8 engine. Equipped with a towing package, the Durango can tow up to 7,400 pounds.

Interior Features
The SXT is the base-trim Durango, and features automatic headlights, fog lights, tri-zone automatic climate control, 6-speaker sound system, and some power accessories. The Crew trim adds a power liftgate, remote ignition, leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth capability, power front seats with memory functions, parking sensors, and a rearview camera. The R/T adds sport suspension to go with its larger wheels and engine, plus Xenon headlights, upgraded upholstery, and exterior styling cues. The Citadel trim includes leather upholstery, automatic Xenon headlights, sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and adaptive cruise control, plus a navigation system. The Durango's cargo capacity, with rear seats folded, is 84.5 cubic feet.

Optional Features
Second-row captain's chairs and a towing package are optional on all Durango trims. Other options are offered at various trim levels, including a skid-plate package; DVD-based rear-seat entertainment system with satellite TV; and many of the Citadel's luxury features.

Under the Hood
The Durango's base engine is a 3.6-liter V-6 unit that works with a 5-speed automatic transmission and delivers 290 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. The R/T trim steps up to a 5.7-liter V-8 engine that employs a 6-speed automatic transmission and delivers 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. The V-8 engine is optional on the Crew and Citadel trims. Rear-wheel (RWD), all-wheel (AWD), and 4-wheel drive (4WD) are available.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Dodge Durango are:
- Durango with V-6 engine and AWD: 16/23/19 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Durango with V-8 engine and AWD: 13/20/15 mpg

Standard safety features include anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, traction control, front-seat side air bags, side curtain air bags, and trailer-sway control.

In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Durango received a \"Good\" rating--the Institute's highest--for all impact tests.
