Exterior Features
The 2012 Dodge Avenger is a midsize sedan that underwent extensive changes for the 2011 model year, including a slightly lower stance, wider track, and wider tires. The current model is a 4-door family car with front-wheel drive and a choice of an inline 4-cylinder or a V-6 engine. The Avenger is offered in four trim levels: SE, SXT, SXT Plus and R/T. Seventeen-inch wheels are standard, with 18-inch wheels available (and standard on upper trims). Other exterior enhancements on upper trims include fog lights and remote ignition and entry.

Interior Features
The 2012 Dodge Avenger SE offers basic power accessories, air conditioning, cruise control, and a sound system. The SXT adds automatic climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, 6-speaker sound system, and other enhancements. The SXT Plus adds a touch-screen interface, while the R/T provides further upgrades to the wheels, steering, and suspension, and adds cloth/leather upholstery and other enhancements.

Optional Features
Bluetooth connectivity and fold-flat passenger seats are available on all 2012 Dodge Avengers. A sunroof is available on all but the SE trim. Many of the upgrades to the upper trim levels are offered as optional packages on the lower trims. The Cold Weather Group includes heated front seats and remote ignition. A navigation system is optional on the upper trims.

Under the Hood
The 2012 Dodge Avenger's standard power plant is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 173 horsepower that works with front-wheel drive and a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Avenger SXT and higher trims are fitted with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The SXT Plus and R/T trims upgrade to a 3.6-liter V-6 engine rated at 283 horsepower.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Dodge Avenger are:
- Avenger with 4-cylinder engine and 4-speed transmission: 21/30/24 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Avenger with 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed transmission: 21/31/24 mpg
- Avenger with V-6 engine: 19/29/22 mpg

Standard safety features on the 2012 Dodge Avenger include anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, traction control, front-seat side air bags, and side curtain air bags. Several other safety features are optional.

To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not conducted tests on the 2012 Dodge Avenger. In safety tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Avenger received a \"Good\" rating--the Institute's highest--for all tests.
