The 2015 Chevrolet Traverse is a full-size crossover SUV designed to carry up to 8 passengers in 3 rows of seats. Though larger than its competitors, the Traverse competes with models such as the Dodge Durango, Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, Nissan Pathfinder, and Toyota Highlander. The Traverse shares its vehicle architecture with two other General Motors products--the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave.

Models and Features
Chevrolet sells the 2015 Traverse in LS, LT, and LTZ trim levels. Upgrade to the LT version and the Traverse includes a center front air bag, 8-way power driver's seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, simulated wood interior trim, and remote engine starting. The LT's exterior improvements include heated exterior mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators, rear park-assist sensors, body side moldings, fog lights, and 18-in. aluminum wheels.

A Traverse 2LT is also available, adding triple-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, second-row captain's chairs, Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system with a 6.5-in. color touch-screen display, and a premium audio system with rear-seat headphone jacks. This version of the crossover SUV also includes an auto-dimming rearview mirror, auto-dimming driver's side mirror, universal programmable garage door opener, and a power tailgate.

The top-of-the-line version is the Traverse LTZ. It has leather seats, ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, memory for the driver's settings, and an 8-way power front passenger's seat. A navigation system is also standard for the LTZ, as well as key safety equipment including a forward-collision alert system, lane-departure warning system, and a side blind-zone alert with rear cross-traffic alert system. Additionally, the Traverse LTZ includes power-folding exterior mirrors, chrome exterior detailing, variable-effort steering, dual exhaust system, and 20-in. aluminum wheels.

Under the Hood
Every 2015 Traverse is equipped with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, and either front-wheel (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). In LS and LT versions, the engine makes 281 horsepower. The LTZ gets a dual exhaust system that helps the V-6 to generate 288 horsepower.

As is true of all Chevrolet models, the Traverse includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of ownership.

Fuel Economy
The Traverse with FWD is expected to deliver 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Add the optional AWD system and these numbers drop by a single digit each.

Safety and Technology
For 2015, Chevrolet improves the Traverse's safety systems by adding hands-free text-messaging support and Siri Eyes Free voice-recognition technology to the family-size crossover SUV. These features are available on vehicles with the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, which includes a 6.5-in. color touch-screen display, Bluetooth music streaming capability, and access to Internet radio stations.

Charge-only USB ports are located on the back of the Traverse's front center console for use by second-row occupants, and a rear entertainment system is available as an option.

As far as safety is concerned, every 2015 Chevy Traverse is equipped with a reversing camera and OnStar services including FamilyLink location sharing and an Automatic Crash Response system that can speed rescuers to the scene of an accident following an air bag deployment. Additionally, a front-center air bag is available, helping to cushion the driver and front passenger from crash forces originating from the opposite side of the vehicle, as well as blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning systems.
