Introduction
The 2015 Chevrolet Spark is a mini-compact car--also known as a city car--a 5-door hatchback with seating for four people and a base price of just over $13,000. Primary competitors include the Fiat 500, Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Mazda 2, Mitsubishi Mirage, Nissan Versa Note, and Toyota Yaris.

Models and Features
The 2015 Spark is available in LS and LT trim levels, and Chevrolet offers an electric version called the Spark EV. The electric car is covered separately.

Highlights from the Spark LS model's standard equipment list include OnStar Directions and Connections service, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi mobile hotspot, 4-speaker stereo, and cloth seats. The Spark LS also includes air conditioning, power windows, tilt steering wheel, automatic headlights, variable wiper control, and 15-in. aluminum wheels.

Choose the Spark LT and this car adds a Chevrolet MyLink touch-screen audio system, USB port, satellite radio, and extra stereo speakers. Controls for the stereo are mounted to the steering wheel, and the Spark LT is equipped with floor mats, cruise control, power door locks, remote keyless entry, outside-temperature display, and a theft-deterrent system.

A 2LT option package is available for the Spark LT, replacing the cloth seats with leatherette and installing a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Under the Hood
Weighing just 2,269 lbs., the 2015 Spark is motivated by a 1.2-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 84 horsepower and 83 lb.-ft. of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission powers the front wheels, and buyers can opt for a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, a Spark with the optional CVT is rated to get 30 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. If you shift your own gears using the standard 5-speed manual transmission, the car is expected to return 31 mpg.

Safety and Technology
While the Spark might be one of the smallest cars you can buy, it is equipped with 10 air bags and a free 6-month trial to OnStar services including Automatic Crash Response, Crisis Assist, and Emergency Services. This year, Chevrolet has expanded OnStar to include a 3-month/3 GB trial subscription to 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Spark LT has a MyLink infotainment system, which includes a 7-in. color touch-screen display, Bluetooth music streaming, and the ability to access supported mobile applications.
