Models and Features
Chevrolet is selling the new Corvette Stingray in equipment groups beguilingly named 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT.

The Corvette with 1LT equipment group includes leather, 8-way power-adjustable seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, Keyless Access passive entry with push-button starting, power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and a reversing camera. The Corvette Stingray also includes an 8-inch color touch-screen infotainment system with Chevrolet MyLink technology and Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming capability, a 9-speaker Bose audio system with satellite radio, dual USB ports, SD card slot, HID headlights, LED running lights, LED turn signal indicators, and LED taillights.

Additionally, the convertible model includes a power roof that can be remotely operated using the key fob, dropping in 21 seconds at speeds up to 30 mph.

Upgrade to 2LT trim, and the car is equipped with heated and ventilated front seats, power-adjustable seat bolsters and lumbar support, memory for the driver's preferences, upgraded sound system with a bass box, HD Radio, and a color head-up display with performance metrics. This version of the Corvette Stingray also includes a luggage cover, cargo net, frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, auto-dimming exterior mirrors, universal home remote, and an anti-theft system.

The Corvette Stingray 3LT adds premium leather seats, leather-wrapped interior, and a navigation system.

Options and Packages
A Z51 Performance package is optional for the new Corvette Stingray, equipped with improved aerodynamics, an electronic limited-slip differential, dry-sump oiling system, and upgraded cooling systems for the brakes, transmission, and differential.

Corvettes with the Z51 package also include performance brakes, a performance suspension, performance gear ratios for the transmission, and 19-inch front/20-inch rear forged aluminum wheels. A Performance Traction Management system is available in conjunction with the Z51 package, along with Magnetic Selective Ride Control and black-painted wheels.

Additional highlights from the Corvette's optional equipment list include real aluminum or carbon-fiber trim, Competition Sport seats, remote engine starting, suede microfiber-wrapped steering wheel, transparent or visible carbon fiber roof panels for the coupe, chrome or machined aluminum wheels, automatic transmission, and a performance exhaust system. Buyers can also specify Corvette Museum Delivery, which adds a personalized plaque for the car's dashboard.

Under the Hood
Chevrolet calls the 2014 Corvette Stingray the most powerful standard Corvette model ever. It is equipped with a new 6.2-liter V-8 engine featuring direct fuel injection, continuously variable valve timing, and Active Fuel Management technology. The Active Fuel Management system shuts off half of the engine's cylinders under certain driving conditions in order to maximize fuel economy.

With the standard exhaust system, the Corvette's new LT1 V-8 engine generates 455 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. Add the optional performance exhaust system and those figures rise to 460 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. A 7-speed manual gearbox with Active Rev Match is standard, and a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is optional. Both transmissions are mounted at the rear of the car to ensure a 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution.

According to Chevrolet, the new 2014 Corvette Stingray accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in fewer than 4 seconds. A set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport Zero Pressure run-flat tires is standard, wrapped around 18-inch front and 19-inch rear aluminum wheels and contributing to better than 1g in cornering grip, according to Chevrolet. Brembo braking components are also standard.

The new Corvette Stingray's standard Drive Mode Selector allows the driver to choose between Weather, Eco, Tour, Sport, and Track driving modes and, based on the selected setting, to configure up to 12 specific performance variables in order to custom-tailor the car's performance.

Set the car to Sport or Track, and an Active Handling mode provides a competitive setting for the traction and stability control systems. In Track mode, the Corvette Stingray's Launch Control system is accessible.

Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, a 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray with the standard manual gearbox is rated to return 17 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway, and 21 mpg in combined driving while operating on premium unleaded gas. As this overview is written, the EPA has not rated fuel economy for the automatic transmission.

Safety Ratings and Technology
As of this writing, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed crash tests on the 2014 Corvette Stingray.

If a collision occurs and the Corvette's air bags deploy, the standard OnStar system's Automatic Crash Response service will dispatch emergency rescue personnel to the car's exact location, as long as the OnStar subscription is active. A 6-month subscription is standard.
