  • Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine
  • Optional all-wheel drive
  • 10 standard air bags
  • Optional forward collision warning system
  • Optional lane-departure warning system

Exterior Features
The 2013 Buick Encore is a compact 5-passenger crossover SUV equipped with traditional Buick styling features, such as a chrome waterfall grille and trim details, \"portholes\" on the hood, and projector beam headlights with blue translucent accent rings. The new Encore is equipped with standard 18-inch aluminum wheels. Rain-sensing windshield wipers are available.

Interior Features
The 2013 Buick Encore seats 5 passengers and includes fabric and leatherette seats. The rear seat is a 60/40 split-folding design, and the front passenger seat also folds in half to accommodate longer cargo. The Encore offers 18.8 cubic feet of luggage space with the rear seat upright, and up to 48.4 cubic feet with the rear seat folded.

Buick IntelliLink smartphone connectivity is standard, and includes Bluetooth calling and streaming audio, satellite radio, Internet radio, and a 7-inch color touch screen. The driver's seat is 6-way power adjustable, and the Encore employs Buick's QuietTuning technology designed to reduce interior noise.

Also standard are dual-zone automatic climate control, remote engine starting, and a memory system for the driver's seat and outside mirrors.

Optional Features

The 2013 Buick Encore is equipped with a turbocharged, 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine generating 140 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque. Peak torque is generated between 1,850 and 4,900 rpm. A deceleration fuel cut-off system is designed to improve fuel economy, Buick says.

A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard, driving power to the front wheels. All-wheel drive is optional.

Buick equips the 2013 Encore with active noise cancellation technology to eliminate unwanted engine noise. This is Buick's first use of active noise cancellation.

  • Encore FWD: 25/33/28 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Encore AWD: To be determined

Safety
The 2013 Buick Encore is equipped with 10 standard air bags, traction and stability control, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, and OnStar telematics with Automatic Crash Response, which automatically contacts a live operator in the event of an air bag deployment. Rescue personnel are sent to the Encore's location, even if the occupants are unable to respond to the operator.

Optional safety features for the 2013 Encore include a reversing camera, front and rear park-assist sensors, forward collision alert system, and a lane-departure warning system.

As this overview was written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had performed crash tests on the 2013 Encore.

Buick introduces an all-new Regal sedanAll other models in the automaker's lineup receive minor updatesHistoryBuick is an American automaker that traces its roots back to 1899. In 1903, founder David Dunbar Buick incorporated his growing shop into the Buick Motor Company. The company released the Model B in 1904. That first car was a vehicle that would carry the automaker through the end of its first decade. By 1915, Buick had changed direction, and successfully moved upscale as a luxury brand. As market demands called for a different type of product near end of the century, the automaker introduced its first sport utility crossover, called the Rendezvous, in 2001. Today's lineup includes the Lacrosse, the all-new European-based Regal, and the 8-passenger Enclave sport utility.
