What's New for 2014:
  • New turbocharged V-6 engine offers improved fuel economy
  • Additional rear seat boosts seating capacity
  • Audi Connect technology is standard
  • This year's base trim level was last year's mid-level trim
  • Several new options added

The 2014 Audi A7 is a full-size luxury hatchback (Sportback in Audi parlance) that seats 5, now that a center rear seat has been added. Last year's Premium trim level has been eliminated, and two trims remain available: Premium Plus, and Prestige. The 2014 Audi A7 might be compared with luxury vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Tesla Model S, and the Porsche Panamera.

Models and Features
The 2014 Audi A7 is available in 12 exterior colors and five leather seating surfaces. Standard exterior equipment includes Xenon Plus headlights, LED running lights, LED taillights, heated exterior mirrors and washer jets, adaptive rear spoiler, and 19-in. aluminum wheels. Interior features include genuine wood or aluminum interior trim, triple-zone automatic climate control, power sunroof, heated 8-way-adjustable power front seats, push-button ignition, Bluetooth connectivity, universal garage door opener, voice-activated navigation system with handwriting recognition and Audi Connect service, color driver information display, front and rear park-assist sensors, reversing camera, keyless entry system, and sound system with iPod/iPhone integration and HD Radio. The Prestige trim level includes a distinctive S-line exterior styling treatment, 4-zone climate control, heated and ventilated 12-way power front sport seats, power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, LED ambient cabin lighting, adaptive headlights that swivel to help illuminate around corners, headlight washers, and a premium 630-watt Bose audio system. Total cargo space behind the rear seats is 24.5 cu. ft.

Options and Packages
Most of the 2014 Audi A7's options are grouped into packages. The Cold Weather package is available on both trim levels, and adds heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel. The Sport package includes a distinctive wheel design, summer performance tires, sport suspension, and a 3-spoke sport steering wheel with shift paddles. The Audi Side Assist package features Audi Side Assist blind-spot monitoring, power-folding side mirrors, and an Audi PreSense Rear system that senses if a rear-end collision is about to happen and automatically readies safety systems for impact. Additional options for all versions of the A7 include metallic paint and rear-seat side-impact air bags. The Driver Assistance package includes power-folding side mirrors, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, Audi Side Assist, and Audi PreSense Plus, which employs the radar units for the adaptive cruise control system to determine if an impact is about to occur and readies the vehicle for a collision while automatically braking to decelerate, if necessary. Exclusive to the A7 3.0T Prestige is an optional Bang & Olufsen audio system that features 1,300 watts of power and 15 speakers. The Innovation package is also exclusive to the Prestige trim, and includes the Driver Assistance package plus a head-up display, full LED headlights, Active Lane Assist and Corner View Camera, and Night Vision Assistant with pedestrian-detection technology. With the night vision technology, when the A7 is approaching a person or animal after dark, the night vision display helps the driver to \"see\" them from 1,000 feet away, according to Audi. At 300 feet, the system provides a yellow-colored alert, and if the person or animal steps into the car's path, the alert switches to red.

Under the Hood
The standard engine on the 2014 Audi A7 is a new, supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 that produces 310 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine works with an 8-speed automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. Optional is a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V-6 engine that makes 240 horsepower and 428 lb.-ft. of torque.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2014 Audi A7 are 18 mpg city/28 mpg highway/21 mpg combined. The diesel engine makes 24/38/29 mpg.

Safety Ratings and Technology
The 2014 Audi A7 includes 8 standard air bags, including knee air bags for the driver and front-seat passenger. Rear-seat side-impact air bags are optional. Additional safety features include an Audi Backguard anti-whiplash system, 4-wheel ventilated disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, traction control, stability control, and rain-sensing wipers. The Prestige trim adds active headlights.

As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed crash tests on the 2014 Audi A7.
