Reviews

The Volvo XC90 was introduced in 2003 as the first SUV in the manufacturer’s lineup, designed to compete against the BMW X5, Infiniti FX and Volkswagen Touareg. Unlike the competition, the midsized XC90 offered up to 7-passenger seating. A comprehensive list of standard safety features is available, including an ultra high-strength Boron steel-reinforced passenger compartment. At its introduction, the XC90 was available with a choice of turbocharged 5- or 6-cylinder powerplants. Those were eventually replaced with a normally aspirated 6-cylinder engine and a Yamaha-sourced 8-cylinder engine. The XC90 received a minor facelift in 2007 when the front and rear fascias were restyled and the interior appointments upgraded. For 2008, all versions receive a standard dimming interior mirror, and other minor improvements. A second-generation XC90 is rumored for the 2010 model year.

All 2008 Volvo models are covered by a 4-year/50,000-mile comprehensive Volvo New Car Warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile corrosion warranty. Volvo On-Call Roadside Assistance is standard for the first four years of ownership.
