The Jeep Liberty is little changed for 2007, though it is now available in Sport or Limited versions, and in a new Green Metallic color.

Overview
Jeep introduced its compact-sized Liberty sport utility vehicle in 2002. Its design blends elements of the classic Jeep Wrangler with those of the larger Jeep Grand Cherokee . Inside, it provides seating for 5 plus cargo capacity. All Liberty models come with a 3.7-liter V-6 engine that provides 210 hp. Six-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmissions are available, as are part- and full-time 4-wheel drive (4WD).

The Liberty Sport comes with 16-inch wheels, Command-Trac part-time 4WD, electronic stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and cloth high-back front bucket seats. Options include side air bags, full-time 4WD, aluminum wheels, a power sunroof, a rear cargo organizer, premium Infinity speakers and an AM/FM radio with a 6-disc CD player, fog lamps, satellite radio, cruise control, a trailer towing package, an off-road package, and an engine block heater.

The Liberty Limited comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission, premium low-back bucket seats with a power seat for the driver, and cruise control. Options include an automatic-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, 17-inch wheels, a navigation system, heated leather seats, and other options already listed for the Sport.

The Competition
The Jeep Liberty competes in the Compact Utility segment, which consists of five models. Buyers in this segment look for exterior styling, reliability, and performance, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Avoider Study^SM and the Escaped Shopper Study.^SM

The top sellers in the segment during calendar year 2006, according to the J.D. Power and Associates Sales Report,^SM were the Jeep Liberty (133,557 units sold), Jeep Wrangler (80,271), and Nissan Xterra (62,325). The Jeep Liberty’s 133,557 sales in 2006 represent a decrease of 20 percent compared to the previous year. Also offered in the Compact Utility segment is the Toyota FJ Cruiser. Joining the segment in 2007 is the Dodge Nitro.
