Why We Drove It: The Mercury Milan received 4.5 out of 5 Power Circle Ratings for Predicted Reliability, and 5 out of 5 Power Circle Ratings in the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Vehicle Dependability Study. It is also called a “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and the Milan Hybrid is one of the most fuel-efficient midsize sedans on the market.
In surveys that J.D. Power and Associates has conducted with verified owners of the Mercury Milan, the people that actually own one told us what they like and don’t like about their car. Note that the data below relates to the 2009 Milan, which is similar to the updated 2010 model.

What Owners Like:

“MPG – with gas high, good mileage is important.”

“It has good fuel economy.”

“Great gas mileage.”

“Acceleration is quick and responsive.”

“Four-cylinder [engine] has great pick-up.”

“I wish the four-cylinder had a little more spunk.”

“I just do not like hearing so much engine noise on acceleration.”

“When you release the trunk it should pop up enough to grab hold of it.”

“The trunk is not easy [to open]. Would like something to grab when opening.”

“To close trunk you have to put your hand on top and your hand or glove gets dirty. Would like something to grab when closing [trunk].”

“Nothing to grab when opening the trunk.”

“Door rattles developed almost immediately.”

“Interior [trim] around gear shift scratches too easily.”

“I could do without the colored lights on the floor and around the center console cupholders.”

“[Difficulty] of judging distances when parking.”

“Rear visibility – very hard to see out the back.”

“I don’t like the shape of the rear [window] and brake light. I can’t see behind me.”

“[I don’t like] the rear window visibility while backing up.”

“Hard to see behind when backing up, changing lanes.”

“Base model left too [many] advertised features out and I am very disappointed with value.”

“Sadly, I discovered it was made in Mexico.”
