Why We Drove It: The Toyota 4Runner tied for the top-ranking in its class – with the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and Ford Edge – in the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Initial Quality Study (IQS). It was also the No. 2-ranked SUV in its class in our Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), which measures dependability after three years of ownership.
In surveys that J.D. Power and Associates has conducted with owners of the Toyota 4Runner, the people that actually own one told us what they like and don’t like about their car.
What Owners Like:
“4WD and off-road ability.”
“Ease of going from 2-wheel to 4-wheel drive.”
“Engine power and drivetrain [are] above average.”
“Kicks into passing gear quickly.”
“Acceleration and speed excellent for [an] SUV.”
“Ease [of changing] engine oil and filter.”
“Oil filter is on top of engine and easy to change.”
“Handling very surefooted. Surprisingly peppy.”
“Handling [is] excellent in all conditions.”
