Why We Drove It: The 2009 Kia Rondo is the most fuel-efficient midsize wagon when equipped with a four-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission, according to the EPA.
Initial Quality – J.D. Power and Associates requires a minimum threshold of survey responses to include a vehicle in its data. An insufficient number of Rondo owners responded to our 2008 round of surveys; therefore, we were unable to rate the 2008 Kia Rondo for Initial Quality. In the Rondo’s freshman year on the market, 2007, it received an Initial Quality Power Circle Rating of 3 out of 5.

Performance and Design – J.D. Power and Associates requires a minimum threshold of survey responses to include a vehicle in its data. An insufficient number of Rondo owners responded to our 2008 round of surveys; therefore, we were unable to rate the 2008 Kia Rondo for Performance and Design. In the Rondo’s freshman year on the market, 2007, it received a Performance and Design Power Circle Rating of 2.5 out of 5.

Predicted Reliability – The Kia Rondo has not yet been included in the J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study, which looks at the durability of vehicles at the 3-year ownership mark. However, based on the performance of all Kia models during the past three years in both our Initial Quality and Vehicle Dependability studies, the Predicted Reliability Power Circle Rating for the 2009 Kia Rondo is 3 out of 5.

Fuel Economy – EPA fuel economy estimates for the 2009 Kia Rondo are 20 mpg city/27 mpg highway with the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and automatic transmission. With the available 2.7-liter V-6 engine, the Rondo is estimated to achieve 18 mpg city/26 mpg highway.

Safety – The 2009 Kia Rondo gets 5-star crash test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the driver and front passenger in the frontal impact test, and for the front seat occupants in the side impact test. The NHTSA assigns rear seat occupants a 4-star rating in the side impact test, and the Rondo receives a 4-star rollover rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not performed crash test evaluations of the Kia Rondo.

Environment – According to the EPA, the 2009 Kia Rondo consumes 15.6 barrels of petroleum annually with the four-cylinder engine, and 16.3 barrels of petroleum annually with the V-6 engine. The resulting carbon footprint ratings are 8.3 tons of air pollution per year for the four-cylinder model and 8.7 tons of air pollution per year for the V-6 model. The Kia Rondo receives a national air pollution score of 6 out of 10 regardless of engine choice. In California and New England, the Rondo four-cylinder scores a 9.5 out of 10 with SULEV equipment and a 7 out of 10 without SULEV equipment. The Rondo V-6 receives a score of 6 out of 10 in the California and New England regions.

Best car I have ever owned-more reliable and quieter than many cars I've owned that I paid 2 or 3 times more for.Visibility, storage, convenience all wrapped up in a price better than anything out there.
