Why We Drove It: The Infiniti G Sedan ranked among the top of its class in our 2008 Initial Quality Study.
Initial Quality – In the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Initial Quality Study, the Infiniti G35 Sedan and G37 Coupe received an Initial Quality Power Circle Rating of 5 out of 5.

Performance and Design – In the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study, the Infiniti G35 Sedan and G37 Coupe received a Performance and Design Power Circle Rating of 3 out of 5.

Predicted Reliability – The current Infiniti G Series is too new to have been included in our J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study. However, based on the performance of Infiniti models during the past 3 years in both our Initial Quality and Vehicle Dependability Studies, the G’s Predicted Reliability Power Circle Rating is 4.5 out of 5.

Fuel Economy – EPA fuel economy estimates for the 2009 Infiniti G37 Sedan when equipped with the standard 7-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are 18 mpg city/26 mpg highway. When equipped with the optional manual transmission and rear-wheel drive the ratings are 17 mpg city/25 mpg highway. With optional all-wheel drive on the G37x Sedan, the ratings are 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway. During our test driving of a rear-wheel drive G37 with an automatic transmission, we averaged 19.4 mpg.

Safety – According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2009 Infiniti G37 Sedan gets a 5-star crash test rating for the driver and a 4-star rating for the front passenger in the front impact test. The NHTSA also awarded the G37 Sedan with 5-star crash test ratings for the front and rear seat passengers in the side-impact test, as well as a 5-star rollover rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the G37 Sedan a “Good” rating in the frontal offset crash test, a “Good” rating in the side impact crash test, and a “Marginal” rating in the rear impact crash test.

Environment – According to the EPA, the 2009 Infiniti G37 Sedan consumes between 16.3 and 17.1 barrels of petroleum annually, with the manual transmission model and the all-wheel-drive model burning more fuel. The resulting carbon footprint ratings range from 8.7 to 9.2 tons of air pollution per year. At the time this review was published, no National or California/New England air pollution scores were available for the G37 Sedan.

I must say that a G37 sedan became my car a few weeks ago after shopping for 6 months. It is smooth, quiet and also lightning fast. I compared it to BMW 328 and 335, Acura TL, and Audi A4. The Infiniti is, by far, the best value.
