Initial Quality – In the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Initial Quality Study (IQS), which measures owner satisfaction with vehicle quality after 90 days of ownership, the Infiniti G Series received 5 out of 5 Power Circle Ratings when compared to other vehicles in its class.

Predicted Reliability – The current version of the Infiniti G Series is too new to have been included in the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), which measures owner satisfaction with a vehicle’s reliability after three years of ownership. Based on the historical performance of the G Series in our firm’s Initial Quality and Vehicle Dependability studies, the Infiniti G Series receives 4.5 out of 5 Power Circle Ratings for Predicted Reliability.

Fuel Economy – The 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible is equipped with a 3.7-liter V-6 engine driving the rear wheels through a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission. According to the EPA, the G37 Convertible is rated to return 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway with the manual, and 17 mpg city/25 mpg highway with the automatic.

Our review vehicle, a G37 Sport equipped with a manual transmission, averaged 17.8 mpg during a week of mixed driving. Combined with the car’s 20-gallon fuel tank, this actual fuel economy figure results in an approximate 355-mile range between fill-ups of premium unleaded.

Safety – The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had not yet performed crash tests on the 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible at the time this review was published.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2009 Infiniti G37 receives a “Good” rating in the frontal offset crash test, a “Good” rating in the side-impact crash test, and a “Marginal” rating for rear impact protection. The IIHS does not distinguish between sedan, coupe, and convertible variants of the Infiniti G37.

Environment – According to the EPA, the 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible consumes 18 barrels of petroleum annually with a manual transmission and 17.1 barrels of petroleum annually with an automatic transmission, resulting in carbon footprint ratings of 9.6 and 9.2 tons per year, respectively. Air pollution scores were not available at the time this review was published.
