Why We Drove It: The 2009 Ford F-150 is called a "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and is among the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its class when properly equipped.
• Ford says the 2009 F-150 is completely redesigned with a new chassis, new styling, and a new interior.
• Ford has built more than 33 million F-Series pickups since 1948.
• The 2009 Ford F-150 has a fully-boxed frame made with hydroformed, high-strength steel side rails and cross members that pass through the side rails, resulting in a 10-percent improvement in torsional rigidity.
• Ford says the 2009 F-150 employs “laser-edge welds that are five times stronger than other trucks’ traditional spot welds.”
