Why We Drove It: The Chevrolet Silverado was the top-ranked large pickup in the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Initial Quality Study, and in standard format with a V-6 engine and 2WD, is one of the most fuel-efficient large pickups on the market.
In surveys that J.D. Power and Associates has conducted with verified owners of the Chevrolet Silverado, the people that actually own and drive one told us:

“Exterior paint and fits are outstanding.”

“This is my dream truck. I love everything about it.”

“Love the way [the Silverado] drives and handles.”

“Excellent throttle response and acceleration.”

“Engine/transmission performance is outstanding. Abundant power.”

“Unhappy with gas mileage…getting 13 to 14 [mpg]”

“The gas mileage is horrible. My average is 13 [mpg].”

“[The Silverado] drives better than any previous years.”

“Doesn’t drive like a pickup truck. Rides like a luxury car.”

“It has all the luxuries of a car but works like a truck.”

“Interior design is superior to everybody else.”

“Interior is luxurious and quiet.”

“Interior materials convey impression of high quality.”

“Did not have big choice [in] seat colors and fabrics.”

“Seat fabric is like Velcro. Never again.”

“Interior seat material collects every [speck] of lint.”

“Lint and hair sticks to seats and is hard to clean.”

“Center console gives lots of storage room.”

“Console is difficult to access. It should be a slide-out drawer.”

“No place to lay anything on dash.”

“Needs more storage in dash.”

“Not enough storage; glove box is too small.”

“Door window freezes easily [during] Michigan winters.”

“Remote engine start-up [is] great during Idaho winter.”

“Radio operation is complicated.”

“Very inconvenient to add electric trailer brake module.”

“Overall look [is] aggressive, modern, sleek.”

“Looks better than any other [truck] on the road.”

“Front end looks like the back of a forklift.”

“Unhappy with raised panels on bed sides; will be bad for paint chips.”

new silverado has 5.3lt. active fuel management system-can't tell when it's on. Is there a light? Do we turn it on? Is it automatic?
