Why We Drove It: The Buick Enclave ranked highest in its class in our APEAL study and it received a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Initial Quality – In the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Initial Quality Study, the Buick Enclave received an Initial Quality Power Circle Rating of 3 out of 5.

Performance and Design – In the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution And Layout Study, the Buick Enclave was the top-ranked midsize multi-activity vehicle and received a Performance and Design Power Circle Rating of 5 out of 5.

Predicted Reliability – The Buick Enclave is too new to have been included in our J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study. However, based upon the performance of all Buick models during the past three years in both our Initial Quality and Vehicle Dependability studies, the Enclave’s Predicted Reliability Power Circle Rating is 3.5 out of 5.

Fuel Economy – EPA fuel economy estimates for the 2009 Buick Enclave are 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway for FWD models, and 16 mpg city/22 mpg highway for AWD models. During our test driving in an FWD model, the Enclave averaged 16.1 mpg.

Safety – The 2009 Buick Enclave gets 5-star crash test ratings for frontal impact driver and passenger, and for side impact front and rear seating positions. It received a 4-star rollover rating with FWD and with AWD. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the Buick Enclave a Top Safety Pick designation thanks to its Good ratings in frontal, side and rear impact tests, combined with its standard stability control system.

Environment – According to the EPA, the 2009 Buick Enclave consumes 19 barrels of petroleum annually, resulting in a carbon footprint rating of 10.2 tons of air pollution per year. The Enclave’s national air pollution score is a 6 out of 10, with 10 being best. In California and New England, its air pollution score is a 7.

My wife and I have a leased Q56 that we will be turning in shortly. We have started looking at whats out there. We test drove the Audi Q7 and Enclave. The verdict, there is good value in the Buick.
