Why We Drove It: The Buick Enclave ranked highest in its class in our APEAL study and it received a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The Buick Enclave is a full-size crossover SUV that debuted in 2008, replacing the Buick Rendezvous and the Buick Terraza. Under its skin, the Enclave shares GM’s full-size crossover SUV architecture with the Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook, but is positioned as a more luxurious choice and features unique design cues inside and out.
Here is what changed on the 2009 Buick Enclave:
• New 3.6-liter V-6 with direct-injection and more power
• Heated & cooled front seats available as a stand-alone option
• New standard Bluetooth hands-free communications system on all models
• Available XM NavTraffic for 80 major North American markets with optional touch-screen navigation system
• Available OnStar Destination Download when optional navigation system is ordered
• Driver Confidence package adds rear backup camera display in rearview mirror
• 110-volt inverter included with optional entertainment system
• Two new exterior colors: Silver Green Metallic and Quicksilver Metallic
The 2009 Buick Enclave is available in CX or CXL trim levels, both with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. Choosing the Enclave CXL adds leather upholstery, 19-inch wheels, memory settings for up to two drivers, and heated front seats with additional power seat adjustments. Choosing CXL trim is also the pathway to optional power folding outside mirrors with auto-dimming on the driver’s side, articulating headlights that help the driver to see around turns, and power tilt and telescopic steering wheel.
The 2009 Buick Enclave is powered by a 3.6-liter V-6 engine making 288 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 270 lb.-ft. of torque at 3400 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, and buyers can choose front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. An optional towing package increases the Enclave’s towing capacity to 4500 pounds.
Standard safety features on the 2009 Buick Enclave include six airbags with rollover sensing, ABS with Panic Brake Assist, traction and stability control, and OnStar communications with one free year of service that includes Advanced Crash Response System.
Buick says the Enclave competes against the Acura MDX, Audi Q7, Lexus RX 350, and Volvo XC90.

My wife and I have a leased Q56 that we will be turning in shortly. We have started looking at whats out there. We test drove the Audi Q7 and Enclave. The verdict, there is good value in the Buick.
