Performance and Design – In the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution And Layout Study, the Scion tC received a Performance and Design Power Circle Rating of 4 out of 5.

Vehicle Dependability – In the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study, the Scion tC received a Vehicle Dependability Rating of 2 out of 5.

Fuel Economy – EPA fuel economy estimates for the 2009 Scion tC are 20 mpg city/27 mpg highway with the standard five-speed manual, and 21 mpg city/29 mpg highway with the optional four-speed automatic. During our test driving with the manual transmission, the Scion tC averaged 22.8 mpg.

Safety – The 2009 Scion tC gets a 5-star crash test ratings in the frontal impact test for the driver. Front passenger protection is rated as 4 stars. Side impact tests result in a 5-star rating for front and rear seat occupants. The Scion tC also received a 4-star rollover rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety had not tested the Scion tC at the time this review was published.

Environment – According to the EPA, the 2009 Scion tC with a manual transmission consumes 14.9 barrels of petroleum annually, resulting in a carbon footprint rating of 8.0 tons of air pollution per year. The Scion tC’s national air pollution score is 6 out of 10. In California and New England, the tC’s air pollution score is 7 out of 10.
