Why We Drove It: The Mazda 5 is the most fuel-efficient minivan on the market.
In surveys that J.D. Power and Associates has conducted with verified owners of the 2008 Mazda 5, the people that actually own and drive one told us:

“Interesting concept and mini-minivan, roomy, 6 passenger, fuel efficient.”

“For a vehicle of this size and versatility, it is great fun to drive and handle!”

“Only car in its class with [a] manual transmission. Handles very well.”

“Low profile tires with high pressure make ride rougher than desired.”

“I don’t like that new cars [have] such low-mileage tires. I shouldn’t have to buy new tires in a year or so after buying a new car.”

“Bumpers too low, tires too small, a cheap car! Too dusty interior, black plastic gets dirty.”

“Defrost/climate control can only be used in certain setup/locations, not all positions.”

“Defrost-only when on. When…front window fogs [up] then press defrost, body gets cold.”

“Would like back seat climate control for both air and heat; it only has cold air flow now.”

“Brake pedal and accelerator pedal too close together.”

“Proximity of gas and brake pedals is too close and brake pedal too high.”

“Great seating arrangement. Only small vehicle with 6 passenger seating.”

“Lack of front storage. Tiny center console, big glove box but not easy to reach.”

“Not enough storage up front. I like to have a [hidden] place for change/money.”

“Could use a little more room behind back seat for storage when seats are up.”

“Can’t fit my double-stroller unless I put the seats down.”

“I know this is a small van, but it could use more bins or something.”

“Storage under rear seats is cool and kids stuff isn’t floating all over [the] car.”

“The hatchback is difficult for me to pull down once it is released to open.”

“Would like hatchback tailgate to unlock separately from doors to prevent stranger having access to rear of vehicle when side doors are unlocked.”

“Gas [mileage] is at a decent 23-27 mpg. Wish it could be better, but good enough!”

“[The Mazda 5 is] loud [inside]. Have to turn off radio and air conditioning to hear rear passengers while driving.”

“Plenty of features for the price, comfort on long trips, great mpg.”

“Lots of upgrades, bells [and] whistles for reasonable price.”

“Visibility is great. It’s like being in a snowglobe, I can see so well.”

“Smart looking, stylish…exterior.”

“Sporty styling and compact size with sliding doors! Easy to park!”
