Initial Quality – In the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Initial Quality Study, the Lexus IS received an Initial Quality Power Circle Rating of 3 out of 5.

Performance and Design – In the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution And Layout Study, the Lexus IS was the top-ranked entry premium vehicle and received a Performance and Design Power Circle Rating of 5 out of 5.

Predicted Reliability – The current iteration of the Lexus IS is too new to have been included in our J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study. However, based upon the performance of all Lexus models during the past three years in both our Initial Quality and Vehicle Dependability studies, and the rating of the previous generation of the Lexus IS, the IS’s Predicted Reliability Power Circle Rating is 4.5 out of 5.

Fuel Economy – EPA fuel economy estimates for the 2008 Lexus IS F are 16 mpg city/23 mpg highway. During our test drive of the IS F, we averaged 16.6 mpg.

Safety – The 2008 Lexus IS F has not been crash tested by the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration, so no ratings are available. Ratings for the standard IS are not applicable because of the IS F’s redesigned front end and other structural changes. The same is true for The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which has not specifically rated the IS F.
 
Environment – According to the EPA, the 2008 Lexus IS F consumes 19 barrels of petroleum annually, resulting in a carbon footprint rating of 10.2 tons of air pollution per year. The IS F’s national air pollution score is a 6 out of 10, with 10 being best. In California and New England, its air pollution score is a 7.
