Why We Drove It: The Acura TSX is among the top-ranked vehicles in its class according to our Initial Quality Study and is among the more fuel efficient luxury cars according to the EPA.
The Acura TSX is a compact entry luxury sedan and the least expensive model in Acura’s lineup. It is positioned as a sport sedan, and comes standard with a manual transmission. Based on the European-market Honda Accord, which is smaller and more nimble than the Accord sold in the U.S., the Acura TSX is offered only with a fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine – a rarity amongst its competitors. This is the final year for the current version of the Acura TSX, which debuted for the 2004 model year.
Here is what changed on the 2008 Acura TSX:
• Navigation system software now includes mapping for Hawaii
The 2008 Acura TSX is sold in a single level of specification. The only options are an automatic transmission and a navigation system, but dealers sell a variety of accessories for the TSX. Included as standard equipment are perforated leather seats; heated, power adjustable front seats; power sunroof; dual-zone automatic climate control; Bluetooth HandsFreeLink wireless connectivity; a premium audio system with an auxiliary input jack and XM satellite radio; Homelink universal remote; Xenon HID headlights; and heated side mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators. Dealer accessories include a rear seat entertainment system; a cargo net; different alloy wheels; and a variety of trim and décor items.
The 2008 Acura TSX is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine making 205 horsepower at 7000 rpm and 164 lb.-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm running on premium unleaded fuel. A six-speed manual transmission is standard and a five-speed automatic with sequential SportShift is optional. All Acura TSXs are front-wheel drive.
Standard safety features on the 2008 Acura TSX sedan include six airbags: dual front airbags, side impact airbags for the front seat occupants, and side curtain airbags for both rows of seats. Antilock brakes with brake assist, traction control and stability control, and a tire pressure monitor are standard on every TSX.
J.D. Power and Associates compares the Acura TSX to other entry-premium cars such as the Audi A4, Lexus IS, Saab 9-3, and Volvo S40, among others.
