Why We Drove It: Consumers ranked the 2007 Volkswagen Eos in the top 3 within its segment for performance and design. The Eos 2.0 is also one of the most fuel efficient models in its class according to the EPA.
The Volkswagen Eos is a small convertible with seating for four adults. It is equipped with a power retractable hardtop that folds into the trunk, it has a glass roof panel that operates like a sunroof, and it is priced and equipped to straddle the line between mainstream and luxury brands. The Eos debuted for the 2007 model year, based upon the same platform as the Volkswagen Jetta.
The 2007 Volkswagen Eos is available in 2.0T and 3.2 trim levels. The 3.2 model costs $8,860 more than the 2.0T model and adds a 3.2-liter V-6 engine, a double-clutch six-speed transmission that VW calls a Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), 17-inch alloy wheels, additional wood trim, leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, heated washer nozzles, a wind blocker, a center armrest, a trip computer, rain-sensing wipers, a Homelink universal transmitter, and satellite radio. Options including leather upholstery, sport suspension tuning, sport-bolstered front seats, bi-Xenon headlights that swivel to illuminate around corners, and a rear sonar system called Park Distance Control are available in Luxury, Sport and Technology packages. The Eos is also available with a navigation system, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a 600-watt Dynaudio sound system with 10 speakers.
The 2007 Volkswagen Eos 2.0T is powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 200 horsepower between 5100 and 6000 rpm and 207 lb.-ft. of torque between 1800 and 5000 rpm. The Eos 3.2 is equipped with a 3.2-liter V-6 engine making 250 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 235 lb.-ft. of torque at 2500 rpm. The Volkswagen Eos requires premium fuel at 95 octane, but will operate on 91 octane premium with a slight reduction in performance. The Eos 2.0T model has a six-speed manual transmission, while the Eos 3.2 model has a six-speed sequential manual transmission that works like an automatic, but isn’t.
Standard safety features on the 2007 Volkswagen Eos include four airbags that protect front seat occupants, roll bars that automatically deploy in the event of a rollover accident, antilock brakes with brake assist, traction and stability control, active front head restraints, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
J.D. Power and Associates says the 2007 Volkswagen Eos competes against other compact sporty cars like the Mazda MX-5 Miata, Pontiac Solstice, and Saturn Sky.

I own a 2009-- the 2.0 liter turbo 4 is the only engine choice now. It has plenty of pep and I get 27 mpg around town and 32 mpg on the highway. I've had no leaks, either-- I think VW has solved that problem.
