The big news for the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 is buried in the engine compartment. Last year’s iron engine block has been replaced by lightweight aluminum. While it is as strong as its iron counterpart, it tips the scales at 102 pounds lighter. Combined with a new exhaust, the engine is rated at 550 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque. Most surprisingly, with an EPA rating of 15 mpg city and 23 mpg highway, the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 avoids the guzzler label.
