2009 Ford E-Series
Tracing its roots back to 1992, the Ford E-Series (aka “Econoline” or “Club Wagon”) is a full-size van with a traditional body-on-frame design. Like the Chevrolet Express, it is often configured as a passenger, cargo or conversion van. It is available with or without windows, depending on its intended use. The current model received a completely new front end for the 2008 model year, and receives an all-new interior for 2009. The E-Series is available with many different engine choices ranging from a V-6 to a V-10. Diesel powerplants are also available. The standard transmission is a 4-speed automatic, with a 5-speed TorqShift available with certain engine combinations. The E-Series van is rear-wheel drive. In our 2008 Initial Quality Study (IQS), the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership, the Ford E-Series ranked highest in its segment. In addition, the van ranked among the top three models in its segment in our 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), which measures problems experienced by original owners of 3-year-old vehicles. In addition to receiving a new interior for 2009, Ford is updating the electronics and adding the option of a navigation system.
