2009 Toyota RAV4
The first RAV4 models rolled into showrooms in 1995 for the 1996 model year, sparking the “cute ute” segment that included the 1997 Honda CR-V and numerous other models since. Since its original debut, the RAV4 has grown in size while offering added refinement and creature comforts. The current model, last redesigned for 2006, is available with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder or a 3.5-liter 6-cylinder engine. The smaller engine features a 4-speed automatic transmission (EPA fuel economy ratings of 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway), while the V-6 engine gets a 5-speed automatic transmission (no manual transmission is offered for 2009). There is an available small third-row seat for children—bringing seating capacity up to 7. In our 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), designed to measure problems experienced by original owners during the third year of ownership, the Toyota RAV4 tied for the highest ranking in its segment. The Toyota RAV4 undergoes a major update for 2009. Both the exterior and interior get facelifts and the electronics packages are significantly updated.
