2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser
All-new in 2007, Toyota’s FJ Cruiser is a retro-themed throwback to the brand’s famous FJ40 off-roader from the 1960s. The modern incarnation sports 4 doors and seating for 5 on a durable body-on-frame platform. With a choice of 2- or 4-wheel drive (with a low-range transfer case), the FJ Cruiser is built to tackle a serious trail. The standard powerplant is a 4.0-liter 6-cylinder engine driving the rear wheels (4-wheel drive is optional). The transmission is either a 6-speed manual, or a 5-speed electronically controlled automatic (with the automatic and 2WD, the FJ Cruiser earned EPA fuel economy ratings of 17 mpg city and 21 mpg highway). In our 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, which measures consumer delight with the design, content, layout and performance of their new vehicles, the Toyota FJ Cruiser ranked highest in its segment. For 2009, Toyota adds active headrests, rollover sensors, and a new backup camera.
