2009 Mazda CX-7
This sporty Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) first rolled into showrooms as a 2007 model. With seating for 5 and a strong turbocharged powerplant, the stylish CX-7 meets the needs of consumers who are looking for something that is fun to drive and handles well, but require more utility than can be found in a typical sport sedan. The standard powerplant is a 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine driving the front wheels. An all-wheel-drive version is available that employs the same engine. All models share a 6-speed automatic transmission helping the FWD Mazda CX-7 earn ratings of 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway in EPA fuel economy testing. In our 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, designed to measure consumer delight with the design, content, layout and performance of their new vehicles, the Mazda CX-7 ranked among the top three models in its segment. The changes to the CX-7 for 2009 are rather minor. A new auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink is added, outside mirrors receive integrated turn signals, and the CX-7 Sport gains cosmetic improvements.
