2009 Honda CR-V
Honda’s compact CR-V crossover has enjoyed more than a decade of success on the market. Now in its third generation (last redesigned for 2008), the 5-passenger CR-V is larger than the Honda Element, but smaller than the Honda Pilot. All three models of the CR-V share the same 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and standard 5-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard with Honda’s “Real Time” all-wheel drive optional on most variants (the FWD model earned ratings of 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway in EPA fuel economy testing). The CR-V has captured many accolades over the years. In our latest 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), designed to measure problems experienced by original owners of 3-year-old vehicles, the Honda CR-V ranked among the top three models in its segment. More impressively, the CR-V ranked highest in its segment in our 2008 Initial Quality Study (IQS), the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership. In crash testing, the Honda earned a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and “5-star” crash test scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). As it was all-new for 2008, there are only minor changes to the CR-V for the 2009 model year.
