2009 BMW 3 Series
The often-targeted benchmark in this segment, the BMW 3 Series was completely new for 2006. Larger than its predecessor, the small BMW continues to grow in size but still retains its European sport sedan flair that keeps the rear- or all-wheel-drive 3 Series a joy to drive. With an automatic transmission, the standard 6-cylinder 328i earns EPA fuel economy estimates of 19 mpg city, and 28 mpg highway. Consumers expressed their pleasure with the design, content, layout and performance of the 3 Series in our 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, where the small sedan ranked among the top three models in its segment. Additionally, the 3 Series earned a top-three ranking in its segment in our 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) by demonstrating a low number of problems during its third year of ownership. For the 2009 model year, BMW made cosmetic changes to the exterior, and will introduce a new diesel-powered model called the 335d.
