2009 Toyota Yaris
Last redesigned in 2007, the Toyota Yaris is a subcompact vehicle available in both hatchback and sedan body styles. The Yaris features a standard 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine driving the front wheels. With the standard engine mated to the optional automatic transmission, the Yaris earned fuel economy ratings of 29 mpg city and 35 mpg highway in EPA testing. The Toyota features independent suspension up front, and a torsion beam design in the rear. The brakes are front disc/rear drum with power assist. In our 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, designed to measure consumer delight with the design, content, layout and performance of their new vehicles, the subcompact Yaris earned a top-three ranking in its segment. For the 2009 model year, Toyota has added a 5-door hatchback body style to the model lineup. Along with that model comes updated styling, a sporty body kit, a new interior color scheme and new colors. All models will also receive standard side and side-curtain air bags as well as anti-lock brakes (ABS).
