2009 Toyota Corolla
Few automotive model lines can claim that they have been around since the 1960s, but the Toyota Corolla can do just that. Introduced in 1966, the Toyota Corolla is completely redesigned for 2009. The front-wheel-drive 4-door compact is offered with a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 2.4-liter powerplant (reserved for the XRS trim level). A 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual are the two transmission choices. In EPA fuel efficiency testing, the Corolla earned ratings of 27 mpg city and 35 mpg highway (1.8-liter engine with automatic transmission). In our 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), designed to measures problems experienced by original owners of 3-year-old vehicles, the Toyota Corolla proved its reliability with a top-three ranking in its segment. Furthermore, the sedan earned “5-star” crash test scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in testing.
