2009 Scion xD
The Scion xD is a subcompact, front-wheel-drive 5-door model introduced in 2008 to replace the Scion xA model. The xD is, in Scion’s words, an “urban subcompact.” It is a stylish hatchback based on the Toyota Yaris platform. The standard engine is a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, with a 4-speed automatic optional. With the automatic transmission, the Scion xD earned fuel economy ratings of 26 mpg city and 32 mpg highway in EPA testing. The xD’s suspension has independent L-Arm struts in the front with a torsion beam design in the rear. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) are standard on the xD. In our 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, designed to measure consumer delight with the design, content, layout and performance of their new vehicles, the popular Scion xD ranked among the top three models in its segment. As the model was all-new for 2008, the 2009 xD is a carryover.
