2009 Hyundai Veracruz
The largest SUV in Hyundai’s lineup, the Veracruz was launched in 2007. The 7-passenger Veracruz is fitted with a standard 3.8-liter V-6 engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. In fuel economy testing by the EPA, the Veracruz earned ratings of 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. There are three trim levels: GLS, SE and Limited. All share the same powertrain, safety equipment and standard third-row seating. The Limited model receives standard leather seating surfaces and a power tailgate. In our 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, recognizing owner delight with the design, content, layout and performance of their new vehicles, the Hyundai Veracruz ranked among the top three models in its segment. The 4-door SUV also received “5-star” crash test scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and a “Top Safety Pick” label from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). New for 2009 is a standard USB port/auxiliary jack for the audio system and the availability of black leather seating on the Limited model.
