2009 Hyundai Santa Fe
The Hyundai Santa Fe debuted in 2001 as a midsize crossover based on the Hyundai Sonata platform. The 4-door SUV was replaced in 2007 by an all-new, more refined model with a slew of new safety equipment designed to protect the 5 passengers within the cabin. Two engines are offered, both with 6 cylinders. A 4- or 5-speed automatic transmission is standard on all models, but the smaller 2.7-liter V-6 engine may be ordered with a 5-speed manual transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive an option. The fuel economy rating for the Hyundai Santa Fe is 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway according to the EPA (2WD with the 2.7-liter V-6 engine). In our 2008 Initial Quality Study (IQS), which measures owner-reported defects during the first 90 days of ownership, the Hyundai Santa Fe earned a top-three ranking in its segment. The SUV also earned “5-star” crash test scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a “Top Safety Pick” designation by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). New for 2009 are roof rack cross rails and four new paint colors.
